ABOUT

Since 2008, Oakland Natives Give Back has held an annual Attend and Achieve Back to School Rally and Health Fair served as our flagship event- to help Oakland public school youth start the school year prepared to learn. This collaborative Back-to-School celebration is planned in partnership with the City of Oakland's Office of the Mayor, City Administrator, Assembly Member Rob Bonta’s office, and Oakland Unified School District located at the Oakland City Hall.

ONGB has given:

  • MORE THAN 20,000 backpacks with age-appropriate school supplies

  • 5,000 pairs of shoes

  • 2,500 bus passes

  • free food for Oakland residents and their families on the day of the rally.

The average cost of these gifts to the community since 2008 is close to one  million dollars. This cost savings to families allows their hard earned money to be spent on other costs of living such as housing, childcare, medical care and food. Most importantly, the rally inspires, empowers and prepares our youth for the new school year!
